about me

Hi I’m Lauren and I am the founder of BLUE WHALE DESIGNS.

Based in sunny Perth, Western Australia , Blue Whale Designs started as a small hobby selling my artwork. As popularity grew over time, the brand developed to raise funds for charities aiming to preserve our planet such as “WWF” and Sea Shepherd”. In the future, I hope to work with more charities that you guys would like to support!

I have always had a passion and love for unique clothing which eventually expanded to Blue Whale Vintage which some of you may know. I started sourcing locally and world-wide to eventually share vintage pieces in Perth, interstate and even overseas.

Blue Whale has been active for nearly 4 years, online and in person - setting up at multiple unique fashion markets such as “Fashion Thrift Society” and “Second Life Markets”. I love seeing familiar faces at these markets and meeting every one of you makes me so happy.

The love I have for unique garments has helped me design pieces for  Blue Whale Designs which aims to fight fast fashion by promoting ethical clothing distribution.

I hope to create bold, creative garments that will be in your wardrobes for a very long time… I am so excited to share the beginning and journey of Blue Whale Designs with you all - Lauren xx

garment production and commitment to sustainability ❃

Blue Whale Designs has grown to share cool and creative pieces that will be staple pieces in your wardrobe and lifestyle. My garments are inspired by my time living abroad in Europe, revolving around bold and unique styles. All garments are hand designed by me in Perth, Western Australia.

The design process is a very lengthy process and it takes months before I create my first samples!  I am heavily involved in the design process and work alongside my seamstresses to perfect the fit and design.  My clothing is produced by a small, family run ethical manufacturer in the coastal province of Guangdong in China. This lovely team turns Blue Whale visions into reality,  to be worn and loved by you.

It took me months of research to choose a team to work with; as I had certain values, ethics and visions for my brand. I’m super excited to be working with a tightly knit team in Bali as well as coastal China and I work with them daily. Some of my seamstresses work at home so they are able to spend more time with their family. I love working with a family owned business -  it has made my Blue Whale journey a dream to progress on! The hard work and sustainability involved in bringing my pieces to life is reflected in the longevity and fine details of all Blue Whale garments.

I’m committed to creating garments that support slow fashion by sharing unique garments that can be added as investment pieces into your wardrobe for years to come. My garments are also produced in extremely small quantities, which is why my drops are very limited - to make sure that all pieces find a home and there are none leftover.

My production has a no waste policy and I try use fabrics that are either “end of the roll” or are produced in quantities use the entire roll offered- to ensure that no fabric waste is leftover after production. .

I’m very happy to say that all Blue Whale Designs items are carefully shipped using biodegradable or reusable packaging - made often with recycled materials. Although this method of shipping is more costly, I charge no extra cost and am happy to cover this environmentally friendly method of shipping for you all. My packaging process is designed to limit the use of unsustainable materials such as one use plastics, and to be as environmentally friendly as possible <3.

If you have any questions at all feel free to send me a message on Instagram or email, I love hearing from you all. - Lauren xx
